Arguably the oldest form of Sport in the World , Wrestling , finds its roots deep into Indian Culture. Practiced at Akharas ( Gyms ) across India and the State of Maharashtra , Kushti , the traditional form of Wrestling is the most popular Sport in Rural India by far. The Modern form of Wrestling , Freestyle and Greeko-Roman, on artificial surface is a more organized form of the Sport in India and also paves a gateway to Olympics. Kasabha Dadasaheb Jadhav from Karad - Satara, town in the state of Maharashtra, won the first Olympic Individual Bronze Medal for the India way back in 1952 at Helsinki and thus became an unique National Sporting Icon for and from the sport of Wrestling.

How many of you know local heroes? Men and women who have represented their sport at national or state or even inter city level. Interested few know their achievements, but hardly anybody knows them, their stories, their sacrifices and their moments of glory. We believe that their stories need to be told. Their talent needs to be showcased. We intend to provide a platform for all such budding sportsmen/women.

TIS Reviews

hey guys, this is really a superb initiative in highlighting the sports events and heroes that the media would give a miss (intentionally or not). Just a suggestion : How about having a section for the unsung sports heros (local/national), (current/past),. A section that would showcase their achievements. e.g. Chetan Baboor : Played national level at 16. Won 2 CWG gold. Arjun Award winner. Won national title 4 times. - Abhijeet
